What is the hardest part about a tattoo artists job
Nov 16, 2022
One tattoo artist says:
The first 2 to 4 years of being a tattoo artist is all about learning how to put ink in the skin with consistent results. After that it's kind of depends on the artist. Their are three things I tend to see tattoo artists having a hard time with.
First, drawing and design skills. Some people have amazing natural talents or come into tattooing with a lot of drawing experience, but most of us have to continually work on our art skills, and no matter how good we get we all think we suck.
Second, customer service. Tattooing is a sales and service job, as well as an art job. I will hear people complain about the way they were treated at other shops all the time.
Third, work ethic. Too many artists treat their shop as a place to hang out and look at their phones when they aren't busy rather than a career. Time they could be spending drawing or marketing themselves is spent playing video games or watching movies.
